The World Series of Poker Has Announced the Return of WSOP Paradise to the Bahamas in December 2024
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is set to return to Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas this December for the second edition of WSOP Paradise. Partnering with GGPoker, the series will run from December 6 to December 19, 2024, and will feature the largest guaranteed prize pool in live poker tournament history, $50m on the $25,000 special Main Event.
The announcement of the event’s renewal came shortly after the conclusion of the record breaking WSOP Main Event, where Jonathan Tamayo outlasted a field of 10,112 players to claim the $10m first prize.
Following the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, WSOP Paradise aims to continue the momentum created during the summer and create another unique winter festival of poker events.
The event will appeal mainly to those in the upper echelons of the game and those with deep pockets, as its a high buy-in series of events on offer.
The full schedule has not yet been released but the WSOP has revealed that the event will feature a comprehensive range of high roller and super high roller tournaments, with buy-ins ranging from $2,500 to $1,000,000.
Record Breaking $50m Guarantee on the Main Event
The highlight of the series is the $25,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Championship, featuring a $50,000,000 guarantee, the largest ever and $10m more than the $40m which the World Poker Tour placed on the WPT World Championship last December, won by Daniel Sepiol.
Online Qualifiers for WSOP Paradise at GG Poker
Online qualifiers and tournament promotions are due to be rolled out imminently on GGPoker.
If the recent Road to Vegas promotion is any kind of guide to what to expect, one of the main things that could entail is value, in the shape of overlays. There were over $1.6m in overlays during GG Poker’s promotion for the WSOP Main Event satellites.
PokerWired will report separately on the WSOP Paradise qualification promotions as soon as full details have been revealed by GG Poker.
Details on the full WSOP Paradise 2024 schedule and complimentary hotel accommodations through GGPoker packages will be announced later this year.
Quotes and Reactions
The action we saw during the WSOP summer series is a testament to the health of poker, particularly for high-roller tournaments
said Ty Stewart, SVP & Executive Director of the WSOP, adding
Last year was no one-time gimmick. We’re thrilled GGPoker has reaffirmed their commitment to building WSOP Paradise through the biggest guarantee in poker history.
Daniel Negreanu, GGPoker Global Ambassador, also expressed his enthusiasm:
This is one you can’t miss. There were a lot of learnings from year one and everything is going to be bigger and better. A 50 million guarantee in the Bahamas! Are these guys crazy?
Additionally, Joe Brunini, Chief Gaming and Customer Development Officer at Atlantis Paradise Island, shared his excitement about hosting the event again:
We are thrilled to welcome back WSOP Paradise players, guests, and fans for the second year to Atlantis Paradise Island. This monumental tournament offers attendees the opportunity to experience Atlantis’ $150 million renovation, including the opulent Atlantis Casino, Bar Sol, The Royal Towers, and several new dining options. See you in Paradise!
When Two Tours Go To War
The World Poker Tour World Championship at Wynn Lasz Vegas is also going to be taking place at the same time, but has not yet revealed details of the guarantees for the WPT World Championship or the WPT Prime World Championship, which both took place in 2023.
In 2023 the same clash occurred, with the WPT missing its $40m guarantee by $2.4m, while the WSOP Paradise, which last year had a $5,300 buy-in, just scraped past its $15m guarantee.
This announcement ensures that the rivalry between the two largest live poker operators on the planet will continue this winter. It remains to be seen how the WPT will respond, but the WSOP has made a very significant statement of intent by upping their offer for WSOP Paradise 2.
