Poker pro Brian Rast shared some thoughts about his World Series of Poker (WSOP) deep runs and what he would have done differently to better his record at the series.
Phenom Poker ambassador Brian Rast in a recent interview revealed his thoughts on his deep runs at WSOP 2024 where he cashed eight times in the series.
The Poker Hall of Famer scored a runner-up position in the $25,000 Pot Limit Omaha - High Roller - 8-Handed for over $1.4 million. In the $50,000 Pot Limit Omaha - High Roller, Rast took the 8th spot for ove $220K.
Rast finished 24th in the WSOP 2024 Main Event for $350K. About the most interesting part of 2024, the pro said, “The most exciting thing in poker was my deep run in the WSOP Main Event. It's not where I won the most money, but that was fun. It was nice winning $1,500,000 in the WSOP 25K PLO Eight-Max for second, even though I missed the bracelet.
But in terms of my enjoyment, Day 7 of the Main Event run was the most fun. I'm not happy with how I went out of the tournament, but I played a lot of great poker, even if I messed up my last hand.”
When quizzed about the last hand, Rast added, “The Main Event was an exercise in testing my endurance. It's very grueling. I've got to do a better job if I make another deep run. I need to ensure that I'm well rested by Day 6 and 7.
I was exhausted and knew it at the beginning of the day. And I was using an energy stimulant to stay focused, but then I crashed after dinner. It's just something to remember. If I make a deep run again, I’ve got to change a few things around.”
Rast was also seen grinding in the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship. He finished 10th for close to $70K in the $25,000 + 800 No Limit Hold'em - WPT Alpha8.
It would be interesting to see how Rast turns the tables in the upcoming edition of the live series in Las Vegas. Recently, WSOP released the dates for the 2025 edition.
